About the Artist

Thanks for visiting my website!  I hope you've seen something that resonates with you in some way.  I like to paint all sorts of things but what I am mostly drawn to are landscapes.  For me a landscape painting is a doorway that is not only open to let the viewer see inside but encourages one to feel that place, smell it and maybe even hear it. If I've painted something that does any of those things, even if it's just in a small way then I think it's a success.  One of my collectors loves the fact that I don't put people into my landscape paintings.  When I asked him why he told me that he likes to be the only one taking the journey into my paintings.

I studied both fine art and gemology in school and built a professional career as a fine gemstone and diamond appraiser while also honing my skills as a plein air painter.  I still enjoy painting en plein air but most of my time is spent in the studio.  Many of my works are completed on a commission basis and some have been quite challenging.  Once I was asked to paint a scene of a Boy's camp as a surprise for a client's husband's birthday.  I was commissioned during the winter months but needed to portray the landscape during the summer. It involved a journey to the camp for reference photos in the leafless winter and researching the types of foliage that I would need to add to the variety of trees at the camp for the finished piece! 

I recently moved back to my beloved Arizona.  I grew up here and had no idea how much I had missed it.  It goes without saying that I travel around taking lots and lots of reference photos for my studio work.  I live in a desert community and can see the mountains turn from blue to pink to violet as the sun rises and sets and hear coyotes singing at night.  It's a great place to be a painter.
